Start a Modern Day Victory Garden

The first summer in my garden-not pretty but productive!

Victory gardens were a post war initiative to bring food production back to home soil.  In a way maybe the birth of the eat local movement! A victory garden was often planted in the front yard to show support, perhaps not what we think of as a modern front yard garden, many were just humble rectangles, planted with free seeds distributed by government agencies. The aim of a victory garden was purely to grow food at home, a theme that still lives on to this day from the “ugly garden movement”  to the revival of the “potager” all our home food growing spaces are a victory. Lest we forget.
